I can’t recall how many times; I’ve updated this website. The earliest version was as a portfolio site for web design. Yeah, I actually have a degree in web development. Over time, it became less about design and more about art.

I’ve had multiple websites over the years. Early on, I had this site, and a separate site, mayhemdigital.com for art. Then I focused primarily on digital painting. Same as conventional painting, I just used software instead of brushes and canvas. I still sometimes paint digitally, but I’ve been trying to work more in the physical realm. 

In addition to my separate art site, I later had this site dedicated to fine art photography, one to real estate photography, and one for dudoir. I even tried a Shopify site that wasn’t working. Keeping them all up to date I was finding a bit bothersome. Retiring from real estate photography made getting rid of that site an easy decision. I was using Etsy for art prints, and even listed a few canvas originals. Etsy as an art site I haven’t had much luck with. I was a little late to the game. Standing out among the thousands and thousands of other listers is not an easy task. 

Standing out in the crowd is one of my main reasons for wanting to sell through my own website. I’m not competing with a gazillion others to get eyes on my art. Of course, having my own website the challenge now is getting eyes on my website versus standing out in a crowd. 

So, I bit the bullet, began phasing out all the other sites and switched this one to Word Press. I began learning something about all the different modules and plugins. There are a lot. I’m still a fair hand at coding a website with HTML and PHP. Word Press themes on the other hand can drive you crazy at first. At least they did me. I persevered and I think the site is fully functional now. Probably not near as elegant as it could be but everything works and doesn’t look too bad either.
